Dr. Eleonora Joensuu,
PhD, MEd, BA, MEd, RCC

Hello! I’m Eleonora (she/her). I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (#18902) who is passionate about supporting individuals, relationships, and families to heal, grow, and thrive. I live and work on the ancestral, unceded, and rightful lands of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) and Kwikwetlem First Nations.

I offer a confidential, non-judgemental, and collaborative space for you and the important people in your life to navigate life’s difficulties, cope with distress, and create well-being and change in ways that are meaningful for you. My work is grounded in an anti-oppressive framework, meaning that my work recognizes the complex social and cultural worlds we live in and that impact our everyday experiences, including our mental health. My counselling draws on a number of therapeutic modalities, including narrative, emotion-focused, and somatic-based therapies. I offer queer and trans positive counselling, individual, family, and relationship counselling, including poly-positive counselling. I am also a registered mental health provider with the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA).

I hold a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology and a PhD in Philosophy of Education from Simon Fraser University. Additionally, I have specialized training and certifications in the following areas:

Narrative Therapy Level 1

Emotion-Focused Therapy for Individuals Level 1

Emotion-Focused Therapy for Couples Level 1

Introduction to Play Therapy

In addition to counselling, I am an instructor at Simon Fraser University and at City University and facilitate therapy and support groups at various community agencies. Outside of the therapy room, you’ll find me hiking, gardening, reading, and working to perfect a home-brewed espresso.
