Kyle Martin,
MA Candidate

I am a master’s student and counselling intern nearing the end of my education. I have experience with adults navigating anxiety, depression, social anxiety, ADHD, relational challenges, and the lasting effects of early life experiences. My approach blends Humanistic, Existential, Mindfulness-Based, and Trauma-Informed perspectives, helping clients develop self-awareness, emotional resilience, and deeper meaning in their lives. I believe therapy is a collaborative journey—one where we explore patterns, process emotions, and create meaningful change together. If you’re feeling stuck or seeking greater clarity, I welcome you to connect.

I first became interested in human psychology during my undergraduate studies at the University of Waterloo, drawn to the realization that psychology is present in every aspect of life. Whether we are alone with our thoughts, engaging with friends and family, navigating professional relationships, or simply walking through a forest, our inner world is always with us. Psychology—both individual and collective—is like the water we swim in, shaping our experiences while flowing through us in return.

Sometimes this water is calm and clear, like a gently flowing stream or a tranquil mountain lake. At other times, it can be turbulent, murky, and overwhelming, like stormy seas or rushing rapids. Beneath the surface, there are unseen currents, hidden depths, and shifting tides. While these waters hold opportunities for growth and adventure, they can also be challenging to navigate, leaving us feeling adrift or struggling to stay afloat.

We all experience whitewater and storms at different points in our lives. My passion is helping people understand and navigate these waters—learning to build a boat, to swim with the current, to harness the wind and chart their own course. You are the architect, the builder, and the captain of your ship. If you choose to invite me aboard, my role is to be a trusted member of your crew—working alongside you, supporting you, and adapting to wherever you, the wind, and the waves may take us.

If it’s not already obvious, I appreciate a good metaphor. I’m also a sailor, and for many years I taught sailing to both children and adults. That experience was deeply rewarding—passing on skills, watching students come together as a crew, and helping them harness the forces of nature with confidence and teamwork. Many of my past students described sailing as empowering, healing, meaningful, and even therapeutic.

Now, I am embarking on a new journey. Originally from Ontario, I moved to BC to pursue my education and career as a therapist and counsellor. I am in the final year of my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology and completing my internship at Resolve Trauma Collective. I see this career as embodying many of the same themes that first drew me to teaching—working with people, facilitating learning and growth, fostering empowerment and healing, and discovering meaning, together.

I approach therapy with a deep appreciation for the complexity of human experience, integrating elements from Humanistic, Existential, Mindfulness-Based, and Cognitive traditions. My work is grounded in the belief that healing happens through self-awareness, meaningful reflection, and the ability to process emotions in a supportive and nonjudgmental space. I strive to provide a therapeutic environment where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and challenges with openness and curiosity.

In our work together, I draw from humanistic and existential perspectives, which emphasize personal growth, authenticity, and the search for meaning. I also incorporate mindfulness-based practices, helping you develop a deeper awareness of your emotions and thought patterns, alongside cognitive approaches that encourage insight, clarity, and logical exploration.

Through my education and clinical experience, I have also come to appreciate the profound impact of somatic and trauma-informed therapy. The mind and body are deeply connected, and I recognize the ways in which stress, trauma, and emotions are stored in the body. My approach includes an awareness of how these experiences manifest physically and how we can engage in healing through both cognitive and embodied practices.

I believe that meaningful change often comes through shifts in perspective, deepened self-awareness, and an openness to new ways of experiencing the world. The ability to approach life with curiosity, wonder, and self-compassion can be profoundly transformative. In therapy, I aim to support you in developing greater emotional and cognitive flexibility—helping you move beyond limiting patterns, engage more fully with your inner world, and create space for new insights and possibilities.

Therapy is a collaborative and dynamic process—one where you feel seen, heard, and empowered to explore new ways of thinking, feeling, and being. Whether you’re seeking support for a specific issue or simply hoping to gain deeper insight into yourself, I look forward to working alongside you on this journey.
